Construction of Batumi Bypass Road in an Intensive Mode

The construction of the 13-kilometer section of the Batumi bypass road is underway in an intensive mode. At this stage, construction work is underway on 17 bridges and 4 tunnels.

Tornike Rijvadze, Chairman of the Government of Ajara AR Government and Irakli Karseladze, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of the Roads Department got acquainted with the works.

Within the framework of the project, a 2-lane asphalt-concrete road, 19 bridge crossings, 4 traffic junctions, 5 tunnels and 57 water pipes will be built. The new bypass will pass: Makhinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Feria, Makhvilauri and Khelvachauri.

The existing road runs through the tourist and residential areas, making it difficult for international transit traffic to pass. As a result of the project, Batumi bypass road (along with the Kobuleti bypass road) will completely relieve traffic in Ajara resort area, which will help increase transit traffic. The ecological situation in the resort zone will be significantly improved.

The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The contract value of the project is 329 630 734 GEL.
