Anniversary Conference of Eastern Partnership

Tornike Rizhvadze, the Chairman of Ajara AR Government attended the conference dedicated to the 10-years anniversary of Eastern Partnership in Prague, Zcech Republic. He delivered a speech on panel discussion ‘Trade and Economic Convergence between the EU and Eastern Partners’.

Tornike Rizhvadze talked about economic reforms and the main priorities of the region’s economic developments and noted that the share of foreign direct investments in these fields is growing year by year.

‘The outcomes of the reforms and impressive growth of the country are respectively reflected in international ratings, such as Ease of Doing Business, Index of Economic Freedom and Fitch Ratings, among many others. We are proud that Batumi, an administrative center of Ajara has become a distinguished investment center among Black Sea countries. The Czech Republic is one of the leading investors in our region, besides Norway, India and Turkey. I would specifically highlight one of the biggest Georgian-Czech-Slovak joint investment projects – Green Resort in Kobuleti, which was just recently presented to the high-level guests’ – Tornike Rizhvadze said in his speech.

The Chairman of Ajara AR Government also talked about Association Agreement signed with EU, which provides Georgian companies an access to European markets. He also talked about tourism development in Ajara, prospects and potential.

The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint initiative of the European Commission, EU Member States and six East European states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The objectives of the EaP are economic integration and convergence with EU policies, strengthening energy security, promoting democracy and good governance, as well as developing people-to-people contacts. More specifically EaP focuses, for example, on the visa facilitation and liberalisation processes or the conclusion of Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements between the EU and the EaP countries.

The conference brought together inspiring combination of senior officials from the EU and the Czech Republic, EaP member states, state administration, business and banking sector.
