Meeting with Representatives of the Tourism Sector held in Batumi

A meeting with representatives of the tourism sector was held in Batumi in connection with the preparation of the summer tourist season and the opening event of the season. At the working meeting, which was attended by Tornike Rijvadze, the chairman of the government of Ajara, they talked about current projects in terms of tourism in the region, updated tourist products and expectations of the tourist season.

The opening of the summer season was announced. Batumi will host a two-day festival related to the opening of the season on June 3-4. At the meeting, the head of Ajara Tourism Department Tinatin Zoidze introduced the sector to the strategy of attracting tourists to the region, current tourism projects and international events planned in Batumi this year.

This year, such international tourism and sports events will be held in Batumi as the World Travel Awards, the General Assembly of European Rural Tourism, the European Under-21 Football Championship, the World Chess Championship (under-18), the World Cup in Women's Fencing and others. It was also noted at the working meeting that the dynamics of tourism recovery in the region is unprecedented. Revenues from tourism and travel have doubled compared to 2019. The revenues from international travel in Georgia exceed 3.5 billion US dollars.

In 2022, the number of visits made by domestic and foreign visitors to Ajara region will be 3,909,094 visits. In 2022, visits and flights to Batumi International Airport have fully restored. Also, the occupancy rate of hotels and accommodation facilities has increased. Ajara welcomes the tourist season with interesting tourist products, where travelers can enjoy zipline in Batumi Botanical Garden, canyoning in Kapnistava and Uchko, mountain bike trail in Keda-Shuakhevi, tourist shelters and picnic infrastructure in Jvarimindor, Chirukh, Kapnistava and Shuamta, as well as 25 marked tourist routes.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance and Economy of Ajara Jaba Putkaradze, Mayor of Batumi Archil Chikovani, heads of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and representatives of the tourism sector.
