Tornike Rijvadze - Completion of Khulo-Zarzma Project for Highland Ajara will be a New Stage of development
The completion of the Khulo-Zarzma project will be a new stage of development for highland Ajara and Samtskhe-Javakhet - said the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara Tornike Rijvadze. Together with the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Irakli Karseladze, the Chairman inspected the ongoing construction works on the Khulo-Zarzma road.
‘Mountainous Ajara, the residents have been waiting for the implementation of this project for years, and I am sure that with the joint involvement of all, the Ministry, as well as contractors, we will be able to complete this project within the set time. This will be a new stage of development of mountainous Ajara and Samtskhe-Javakheti’ - said Tornike Rijvadze. The 5 km section of the road passes through the populated area and its reconstruction is of special importance for the local population.
The renewed Khulo-Zarzma road will connect the two regions of the country - Samtskhe-Javakheti and Ajara with the shortest route. The rehabilitation section of the road starts from Khulo, passes Goderdzi pass and goes to Zarzma village of Adigeni. The renewed route will reduce travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe by 1.5 hours. Once the project is completed, tourism flows from both regions will increase, creating new opportunities for economic activity for the local population.
