Training Pool opened at Batumi State Maritime Academy

A training pool was opened at Batumi State Maritime Academy. Its construction started a year ago.

Chairman of the Government of Ajara Tornike Rijvadze, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava and Head of the Maritime Transport Agency Tamar Ioseliani participated in the official ceremony.

Tornike Rijvadze noted that the Government of Adjara is taking important steps to improve education in the maritime field. ‘It is doubly gratifying that on the International Day of Sailors, as part of a joint project, we have opened a training pool in Batumi, which aims to improve the skills of students and current sailors, this pool will help them become more competitive,’ - said the Chairman.

1,600,000 GEL was spent for the construction of the training pool. The pool will enable the Academy students and sailors to undergo mandatory practical training in accordance with the standards developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The modern and multifunctional pool was built with the support of the Government of Ajara, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Maritime Transport Agency. With the new pool, the cadets will undergo training at the highest level, in conditions close to the real one.

Excellent alumni and dedicated teachers were awarded during the event.
